Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. UNDP manages an active water portfolio exceeding US$ 8.1 billion across more than 140 countries.

Core Targets of SDG 6

  1. 6.1 Safe Drinking Water: Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water.
  2. 6.2 Sanitation and Hygiene: End open defecation and provide adequate sanitation, focusing on women and vulnerable groups.
  3. 6.3 Water Quality: Reduce pollution, eliminate dumping, and halve the proportion of untreated wastewater.
  4. 6.4 Water-Use Efficiency: Substantially increase water-use efficiency to address water scarcity.
  5. 6.5 Water Resources Management: Implement Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at all levels, including across borders.
  6. 6.6 Water Ecosystems: Protect and restore water-related ecosystems such as wetlands, rivers, and aquifers.
